Welcome to 6th Grade Math and Science! This will be a fun and challenging year. Let’s take a look together at what we will be learning and some basic expectations that will help us be successful individually and as a community this year.
Common Core 6th Grade Math Scope and Sequence (Accelerated topics included in bold text):
Ratios and Proportional Relationships: understand ratio concepts; use ratio reasoning; analyze proportional relationships
The Number System: perform fraction and decimal operations; understand rational numbers; perform rational number operations
Expressions and Equations: write, interpret, and use expressions, equations, and inequalities; generate equivalent expressions; solve problems using linear equations
Geometry: solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume
Statistics and Probability: summarize and describe distributions; understand variability
Classroom Rules:
Be on time and prepared for class.
Respect others and their property.
Follow directions and try your best.
Stay in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise.
Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
Consequences: Level 1 – Verbal Warning or “Reset” Level 2 – Phone call home and Buddy Room Level 3 – Phone call home and Administrative Referral Severe Classroom Violations: Call campus supervision – Referral to Vice Principal
Homework: All homework is written on the board and should be written in student planners daily. PLEASE CHECK STUDENT PLANNERS EVERY NIGHT. Students will be expected to complete all homework assignments daily.
Math assignments/homework will be given Monday through Friday.
Grading Scale:
A: 88 - 100% ~ Exceeded Standard
B: 75 - 87% ~ Met Standard
C: 62 - 74% ~ Nearly Met Standard
D: 45 - 61% ~ Has Not Met Standard
F: 0 – 44% ~ Has Not Met Standard
If a student misses class, he/she may make up work after school. After an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to pick up missed assignments the day they get back from an absence.
Technology: Technology is a crucial part of this class and will be used often. However, if students choose to misuse and/or vandalize equipment, they will be restricted from its use and asked to complete assignments outside of school.
Citizenship: In order to give each class member equal opportunity and access to the curriculum, all students are expected to follow the class rules and PRIDE expectations.

3-ring binder or other method of organization of materials
Composition notebook
Student planner (first planner provided by school, lost planners $5.00 from library)
SUGGESTED Class Supplies PROVIDED BY PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
#2 pencils with erasers (at least 2-3 at all times)
